Amazon is making fast, free Prime delivery available beyond Amazon.com, giving merchants another way to use the company’s logistics network to compete for online shoppers, according to a Thursday (Sept. 24) press release.
Amazon Supply Chain Services (ASCS) merchants using its Multichannel Fulfillment (MCF) service can now add a Prime delivery option to their own websites at no additional cost beyond standard MCF fees, the release said. The move gives Amazon a larger role in transactions that take place outside its marketplace while giving merchants a way to put Prime’s delivery promise directly in front of shoppers.
The new option is available to new and existing MCF merchants in the United States, including the hundreds of thousands already using the service, according to the release. Merchants can add it through Amazon’s MCF and Buy with Prime app for Shopify, and there are additional integrations planned through Amazon’s Selling Partner API and third-party partners.
Merchants do not have to change their payment processing, order management or store policies, per the release. Prime membership is verified after checkout, meaning shoppers do not need to sign in to Amazon to receive the delivery benefit.
“When our shoppers see Prime delivery on our website, it changes their confidence level, especially first-time buyers,” Gabriella Luksander, general manager at Skinnies Instant Lifts, said in the release, adding the company saw nearly a 10% increase in sales after enabling the service.
More than 40% of eligible orders among early adopters have shipped with Prime delivery, according to the release.
