Used EVs Are Selling Faster Than Gas Cars or Hybrids

A recent study claims that used EVs are moving off the market much faster than gas or hybrid cars, despite higher prices.

Shoppers in the market for a used car are reportedly shifting toward electric powertrains. A report from iSeeCars claims that EVs are the quickest-moving cars in the used-car market compared with their gas and hybrid counterparts, despite a higher price point than last year.

The report studied over 1.5 million cars between one and five years old to find trends in the current used-car market. Between September 2025 and September 2026, used EVs saw a 9.8 percent price increase, while hybrid prices rose 4.9 percent and gas-powered prices rose less than half a percent. EVs sold for an average of $32,533 in September 2026, landing right in the middle of the more expensive hybrids at $34,476 and less expensive gas-powered vehicles at $31,954.

Though EV prices are increasing, they’re moving off sales floors a lot faster than gasoline models that have stayed relatively the same price. In September 2026, used EVs averaged 41.9 days on the market, which is 13 days less than gas-powered cars. Hybrids find themselves in the middle with about 48.6 days on the market. Compared with September 2025, used EVs sold 10.1 percent faster, while gas cars saw a 19.9 percent longer sales window.

However, gas-powered cars take up the top two spots on the overall fastest-selling cars list. The Lexus IS500, which saw its last production year in 2025, took the top spot, followed by the Audi A4 Allroad, another gasoline model.
