BMW’s new iX3 outperformed the Volvo EX60 and Mercedes-Benz GLC EV, driving well over 400 miles during a real-world range test.
In a recent nationally representative survey, BMW found that Americans want more EV range than they actually need.
The study found that 73% consider 75 miles of range, or less, enough to cover their daily driving. Meanwhile, 42% said they would require at least 300 miles of range to consider an EV.
Another 53% said they would be more likely to consider an EV if it could add about 150 miles of range in 10 minutes.
BMW’s new iX3 checks all the boxes. Based on BMW’s sixth-generation (Gen6) eDrive 800V system, the 2027 iX3 50 xDrive delivers an EPA-estimated range of up to 434 miles (with 20″ summer tires).
With the 22″ summer tires, the iX3 50 xDrive has an EPA-estimated range of up to 392 miles. Still, plenty for at least a week of commuting.
It can also add 170-185 miles of range in 10 minutes with up to 400 kW DC fast charging. In everyday, real-world driving, it may drive even further than its official EPA numbers suggest.
During Edmunds‘ EV Range test, the 2027 BMW iX3 50 xDrive (with 22″ summer tires) drove 436 miles on a single charge, topping its EPA estimate of 392 miles by 44 miles.
The electric SUV was also more efficient than advertised. 6%.
