Tesla finally re-revealed its next-gen Roadster last night, and boy was it a doozy. Between its insane specs and its ability to jump over a Tesla Semi, it's almost certainly the talk around your company's water cooler this morning.
But there's one hidden catch that Tesla puts in the paperwork when you put down a deposit on the car: it might not ever be delivered.
That comes directly from the reservation agreement that can be seen when attempting to place a reservation for the Roadster on Tesla's website. Specifically, it states:
You understand that Roadster is still under development at the time you entered into this Agreement and so we cannot guarantee when your vehicle will actually be delivered or if it will be delivered.
Directly above that, Tesla also notes that the reservation agreement is just that—a reservation. And even though you'll need to front as much as $250,000, it's not actually a bona fide order that guarantees you a vehicle just an "approximate" place in line if and when Tesla puts these cars on the road.
Tesla also isn't sure how much the Roadster is going to cost.
The reservation agreement also calls out that any price that it happens to mention is only an estimate, and that anything about the car shown during the presentation could change between now and when it launches (which will supposedly be in 2028).
The estimated Purchase Price of the vehicle, if provided, is only an estimate. We are still working on what options, features and hardware the vehicle will have and so cannot confirm the exact price just yet.
