Tata Motors eyes Iveco product localisation in India; explores FPT engine applications
Tata Motors and Iveco are exploring cross-market product opportunities as the combined business looks to grow volumes and revenue over the next five years.
Tata Motors also sees opportunities to expand the use of Iveco's powertrain business FPT beyond its existing commercial vehicle applications, including industrial engines and power generation.
Tata Motors and Iveco Group are evaluating opportunities to introduce Iveco commercial vehicle products in India and deploy Tata Motors platforms in overseas markets, as the companies begin drawing up joint plans following their combination. The product portfolios have significant complementarity, Tata Sons, Tata Motors and Iveco Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran said at a press conference in Turin, Italy, on Tuesday. Advt
"There are specific products of Iveco Group which will have a lot of relevance in India, and we are already identifying those products. Obviously, those products will have to be localised in India, at least to start with, in a semi-manufacturing," Chandrasekaran said. He added that Tata Motors products and platforms could also be considered for other markets under Iveco, while opportunities in components and batteries would be explored. The companies have yet to identify specific products or quantify the potential investment involved in localisation. FPT engines, industrial applications in focus
Tata Motors also sees opportunities to expand the use of Iveco's powertrain business FPT beyond its existing commercial vehicle applications, including industrial engines and power generation.
Tata Motors Managing Director and CEO Girish Wagh described FPT as "a jewel in the entire Iveco Group", citing its technology portfolio and long-standing customer relationships.
