Smart #2 celebrates market debut in China

Smart's two-seater electric city car is now being offered in China in the Premium trim line at a list price of 102,900 yuan - equivalent to just under €14,000 euros. The #2 is designed as the successor to the iconic Smart ForTwo and celebrated its world premiere in Paris in October.

The Smart #2 Premium is now available in China at a limited-time introductory price of 99,900 yuan (approx. €13,370 euros), slightly below its list price. It remains unclear when more affordable versions beyond the Premium trim will be introduced. The two-seater was unveiled last month at the Paris Motor Show. Here is our detailed report on the 2.75-metre-long city car. One difference from the European specifications is that Smart quotes a CLTC range of up to 410 kilometres for the #2 in China.

In addition to the Premium trim, Smart is launching a limited ‘Couture Edition’, restricted to 999 units. This number applies to both the European and Chinese markets combined. It is clear that production and market overlap with the China launch, as the #2 is manufactured locally by Zhejiang Haoqing Automobile Manufacturing, a subsidiary of Geely. The Chinese production facility thus supplies the two-seater for the Chinese market, as well as for Europe and other overseas markets. 56 metres. 88 metres. The vehicle has a kerb weight of 1,130 kg. It is powered by a 60 kW electric motor from InfiMotion. 8 kWh was disclosed. The Smart #2 aims to revive the DNA of the original Fortwo while elevating it to a new technological level.
