Skoda VW India to transfer Chakan land to ARAI for advanced crash test facility
The proposed facility will support vehicle safety testing across electric and ICE models, including Bharat NCAP assessments and export-related requirements.
The facility will enable more EV-specific tests to be conducted within India, including NCAP assessments required for export markets, the company said.
Skoda Auto Volkswagen India on Friday said it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) to transfer a parcel of land in Chakan, Pune, for setting up an advanced vehicle crash test facility. The facility, to be developed by ARAI, will cater to safety testing of both battery electric and internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. It is expected to expand India's domestic vehicle safety research and testing capabilities, particularly for EV-specific assessments and crash tests required for export markets, the company said in a press release. The land is located next to Skoda Auto Volkswagen India's car manufacturing facility in Chakan. The proposed facility will add testing capacity and support faster development and validation of electric vehicles and emerging automotive safety technologies. “By establishing this facility in Chakan, we are supporting the faster implementation of future Bharat NCAP requirements, helping address India-specific road safety challenges. It will also strengthen the capabilities of OEMs in India to develop vehicles that meet stringent export market requirements,” Union Minister for Heavy Industries HD Kumaraswamy said.
The facility will enable more EV-specific tests to be conducted within India, including NCAP assessments required for export markets, the company said.
