In the UK, Roadchef has announced an agreement with BP for electric vehicle charging, fuels and convenience on the UK motorway network. From 2027 onwards, BP Pulse’s ultra-fast charging will be available to electric vehicle drivers at more than 30 Roadchef motorway service areas across the UK’s road network.
The agreement between the two companies entails Roadchef operating 12 BP forecourts. Each site will continue to supply BP-branded fuels as well as bp’s wildbean cafe offer.
Tim Gittins, Chief Executive of Roadchef, explained that the agreement will enable BP to expand the rollout of BP Pulse ultra-fast EV charging across Roadchef sites, supporting the Roadchef commitment to deliver 1,000 charging bays by 2030.
“Under the UK’s transition to zero-emission vehicles, motorway service areas will play a critical role in improving the availability of en-route charging points,” Gittens elaborated, saying the agreement will help make charging more accessible to drivers across the Roadchef network.
“It will also bring bp-branded forecourts under Roadchef’s operation, strengthening our fuels and convenience food offer for leisure and HGV drivers. Together, these changes will help us serve more drivers and give the business the scale and capability to meet the growing demand for EV charging across the UK,” summarised the Roadchef CEO.
In October, 2024, Roadchef announced its investment in building 650 new fast-charging stations at Roadchef motorway service stations in the UK. The initiative was part of a £20 billion package that the financial services provider Macquarie put together for an infrastructure offensive in the UK.
