Beep, the US-based provider of autonomous shuttles, is launching the next test phase of the VW ID. Buzz fleet by Moia. In Orlando, passenger transport with selected test participants has begun.
Moia America, the US subsidiary of Volkswagen’s mobility brand, is in an intensive testing phase as part of its collaboration with Beep, a mobility provider operating autonomous fleets. In the community of Lake Nona in Orlando (Florida, USA), passenger trips using autonomous vehicles of the type VW ID. Buzz AD have now begun.
Invited passengers participating in the trial can now book the autonomously driving VW buses via the Beep app and use them on three fixed routes with designated pick-up and drop-off points. Interested parties can also join the Beep waitlist to become passengers in future tests.
“Welcoming riders represents an exciting and important milestone for MOIA America as we introduce our first public-facing autonomous mobility experience in the U.S.,” said Paul DeLong, Co-President for MOIA America. “Each trip helps us better understand how people interact with autonomous transportation in everyday settings while demonstrating how this technology can support growing communities and complement existing transportation networks.”
This is the first time Moia vehicles are on the roads in traffic at normal speeds and with passengers. To ensure passenger safety, the buses are accompanied by trained personnel who can actively intervene in the driving process. Passengers are asked to provide feedback on their experience, directly contributing to the further development of the autonomous ride service.
The VW ID. Buzz AD fleet was provided by Moia America and equipped with autonomous driving technology from Mobileye for use with Beep.
