Mattel Brick Shop Launches Hot Wheels–Sized Model Car Sets

Building on the fun of its larger sets, these little brick-built cars cost less than five bucks.

Mattel’s Brick Shop only launched a year ago but has since gone from strength to strength in putting out a varied lineup of models for every enthusiast. Want a huge, blue-chip collectible Mercedes-Benz 300SL set that you can spend hours putting together? Done. Feeling a pang of nostalgia for the teal Honda Civic that got you through the college years to your first job? Sure thing, here’s one that you can swap out the wheels on.

Most of the reason the Brick Shop team has managed to get the rollout right with a mix of obvious heroes like the Lamborghini Miura and secret-enthusiast-handshake cars like the Audi RS2 is down to close work with the designers at Hot Wheels. Located in El Segundo, California, the Hot Wheels team members are all gearheads of one flavor or another, and the passion they have for all wheeled things is genuine. Just, you know, scaled down for those iconic orange tracks.

Small scale is where you’ll find the latest Mattel Bricks sets, now built to the same size as the roughly 1/64th scale Hot Wheels themselves. They’re simple little cars, fewer than 30 pieces per kit, and at $4.99 each, they’re as dangerously tempting as an open family-size bag of potato chips. You can’t just have one.

The launch sets include a 2018 Audi TT RS , a 1991 Acura NSX , a 2024 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 , a Maserati MCPura , a 1999 Honda S2000 , and a Bone Shaker (a 20-year-old hot rod by Hot Wheels design legend Larry Wood).
