A new public charging park for electric trucks has opened at the Magna Park logistics site in the UK. Kempower supplied the technology for an initial 32 fast-charging connectors with up to 400 kW power. In the future, the facility is expected to feature around 200 connectors.
Finnish charging infrastructure manufacturer Kempower has supplied fast-charging technology for the new Electroway truck charging hub in Leicestershire, UK. The facility was inaugurated on 14 October at the Magna Park logistics site near Lutterworth and is described by the companies involved as the UK’s largest public electric truck charging hub.
The location is situated in the so-called Golden Triangle, one of the country’s most important logistics regions, close to the M1, M6, and M69 motorways. Magna Park is home to around 50 logistics and distribution centres, including those of Amazon, Asda, and Marks & Spencer. Hundreds of trucks visit the site daily. Electroway offers 180 secured truck parking spaces across an area of approximately 22,500 square metres. In the first phase, 32 DC charging connectors are available, each with a maximum charging power of up to 400 kW. The total installed capacity is 2.4 MW, dynamically distributed across the connectors.
According to Kempower, electric trucks can recharge approximately 300 kWh during a 45-minute break under suitable conditions. Depending on the vehicle and usage profile, this corresponds to an additional range of up to 240 km.
A second expansion phase is already planned for early 2027. 2 MW. In the long term, the number of charging connectors could increase to around 200.
