Electrify America just flicked the “on” switch at its largest-ever EV fast charging station. Located in Orlando, Florida, the site offers 24 individual stalls, each capable of delivering up to 350 kilowatts of power.
That’s great news for Orlando residents who need a quick top-up, but the site’s location near Interstate 4, the Orlando International Airport, Walt Disney World, and Universal Studios means it’s well-positioned for EV drivers who are just passing by, too.
Plenty of dining and shopping options are also available nearby at the Sand Lake Corners South shopping center, so drivers can spend their time doing something else while their car is charging.
All this being said, there is one important thing to keep in mind. Every one of the 24 stalls at Electrify America’s largest DC fast charging station has a CCS1 connector. It’s not the end of the world, but it means that drivers of NACS-equipped EVs will need to have a charging adapter at hand if they want to top up at this location. All Tesla and Rivian EVs sold in the United States have a NACS charging port, and an increasing number of legacy automakers are fitting the compact connector on their electric models, including General Motors, BMW, Stellantis, and Mercedes-Benz.
The shift in connector preference came after Tesla opened the floodgates, allowing competing EV manufacturers to gain access to its Supercharger charging network in the U.S., which uses NACS plugs exclusively.
Earlier this year, Electrify America set the stage for its future, launching what it calls large-format stations .
