BYD’s upcoming multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) was spotted on a car carrier and at one of its Flash Charging stations ahead of its expected debut later this year.

Spy images of BYD’s new Ocean MPV testing in China have begun flooding the internet over the past few days.

BYD first unveiled the Ocean-V concept at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show in April, a futuristic preview of its first MPV under the Ocean series.

The concept featured a sliding center display screen and two unique modes: Camping and Movie. In camping mode, the seats either fold flat to create a bed or swivel to face each other.

Movie mode, on the other hand, transforms the vehicle into a private mobile theater with a large display screen that flips out of the dashboard.

With exciting features and a futuristic design, many couldn’t wait to see what the production version would look like.

The prototype spotted in testing is a bit disappointing. Although it’s still disguised, the image from Autohome shows a vehicle that looks very different from the Ocean-V concept earlier this year.

The image shows a boxy design with a wide grille and traditional pull-style door handles, which looks drastically different from BYD’s latest vehicles.

Spotted at a BYD Flash Charger in China, the vehicle was equipped with a massive roof-mounted LiDAR. A video (shown below) of the new model on a car carrier from ThinkerCar offers a closer look.

Local reports suggest the Ocean MPV will be 5,145 mm long, 1,970 mm wide, and 1,805 mm tall, with a 3,045 mm wheelbase.
