Bosch is restructuring its semiconductor business and will establish the independent 'Semiconductors' division within the Mobility sector on January 1, 2028. With this move, the technology group aims to expand into new markets such as robotics and artificial intelligence, in addition to the automotive sector, and increase its chip sales to five billion euros by 2030.
Bosch is restructuring its organisational structure and will establish a new ‘Semiconductors’ business division on 1 January 2028 for its semiconductor operations. The new division will remain within the Mobility business sector but will separate from the previous joint structure with the Mobility Electronics division. From 2028, Mobility Electronics will focus on electronic control units and power electronics for vehicles, while the Semiconductors division will take over the development, manufacturing, and distribution of microchips and sensors.
“Semiconductors are the linchpin of our connected world and a key success factor for all of Bosch’s business fields,” said Markus Heyn, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Management of Robert Bosch GmbH and Chairman of the Bosch Mobility business sector.
By 2030, Bosch aims to achieve annual sales of five billion euros from semiconductors. The restructuring is intended to enable greater flexibility in the global semiconductor industry and to open up new growth areas beyond established fields such as automotive components, smartphones, and household appliances. These include, in particular, industrial automation, the control of humanoid robots, and components for data centres in the field of artificial intelligence. Market analyses indicate a sharp rise in global and European demand for semiconductors and silicon wafers in the coming years.
