China's leader Xi Jinping and Madame Peng Liyuan were officially greeted by the Trumps ahead of what will be the fourth state dinner hosted by the Trumps.

President Donald Trump and the first lady officially welcomed China’s president Xi Jinping and his wife Madame Peng Liyuan to the White House with a state arrival ceremony.

The Chinese leader is in Washington, D.C., for a high-stakes summit in which artificial intelligence will be a “big topic of conversation,” according to President Trump. During his remarks, Trump reportedly said they were working on “a more balanced trading relationship.”

Wednesday night, the president and FLOTUS greeted the dignitaries on the tarmac at Joint Base Andrews. Madame Peng Liyuan arrived in a dove gray dress with a pale pink scarf. The first lady wore a dark Givenchy skirt suit with a white Gap T-shirt.

Thursday morning, the Trumps rolled out a red carpet for President Xi and his wife at the White House. The first lady, who often favors European designers for major photo-ops, chose a black bouclé skirt suit from the London-based luxury house Alexander McQueen . The asymmetric four-button jacket is reminiscent of a Chinese-style jacket. Madame Peng Liyuan sported a navy Mandarin-style dress with pale pink at the neckline and her hair swept up in a chignon. Although FLOTUS skipped President Trump’s trip to Ireland last week, her label of choice was designed by the Irish designer Seán McGirr. Catherine, the Princess of Wales , married Prince William in an Alexander McQueen wedding gown, and has worn the label for public outings like this year’s Irish Guards parade on St.
