German SMEs generate over 20 billion euros in sales on Amazon

German SMEs generated more than 20 billion euros in sales through Amazon last year. Of this amount, 5.9 billion euros came from cross-border sales, according to the company. France, Austria, Italy, the United States and Spain were the main export markets.

For the first time, Amazon has disclosed the combined sales revenue generated by German SMEs through its platform. In 2025, this exceeded 20 billion euros, although the company did not provide an exact figure. The amount illustrates the importance of the American ecommerce giant to German businesses.

In previous reports, Amazon disclosed export sales but not the total sales revenue generated by German SMEs. International sales amounted to 2.75 billion euros in 2019. Five years later, cross-border sales had more than doubled to 5.7 billion euros in 2024, according to the previous SME report. The latest report shows that several hundred million euros were added last year. Growth in international sales has slowed in recent years, falling to just a few percent in 2025.

In total, German SMEs sold more than 750 million products through Amazon last year, equivalent to over 1,400 per minute. Notably, Amazon reported the same number of products sold domestically and internationally in 2024. According to the company, growth opportunities for SMEs lie in international expansion, AI and reducing bureaucracy.

The market leader in German ecommerce stated this week that “more than 40,000 German SMEs sell through Amazon”, exactly as it did in 2021. By comparison, last year the company reported approximately 47,000 SMEs. The number of German SMEs selling through Amazon therefore appears to have fallen back to its level of five years ago.
