TCL Sunpower launches hybrid energy storage cabinet for C&I applications

TCL SunPower has launched a new hybrid energy storage cabinet for the commercial and industrial (C&I) segment in Europe.

The X5 has a base unit rated at 50 kW/100 kWh and scaled to 400 kWh by connecting up to four units in parallel. TCL SunPower’s new C&I cabinet integrates a 50 kW inverter and is delivered as a factory-assembled, pre-wired solution, which the manufacturer claims can reduce installation costs by up to 60% compared with systems assembled on site.

The cabinet is 1.9 m tall, has a 1.37 m2 footprint and weighs 1,200 kg. The X5 is rated IP66 for the inverter and IP 55 for the cabinet and operates at temperatures from – 60 C to 50 C.

TCL SunPower is marketing the X5 as a compact unit built for sites that are too small to justify a custom engineered battery system, but too demanding for a residential product. The X5 can accommodate on-grid, off-grid and microgrid operation with product specifications recording islanding in less than 20 milliseconds and black-start capability without any grid or PV connection. The system accepts generator input up to 138 kVA.

Integrated safety features and system management features include three layers of monitoring across cabinet, battery pack, while individual cells support fire suppression, gas detection and arc-fault interruption. They system is managed through TCL’s energy management controller and a web or app interface. TCL SunPower described the cabinet as “VPP ready” and noted compliance with GDPR European data protection regulation and ETSI EN303645 cybersecurity requirements.
