EDP Renewables’ 250-MW Arkansas solar project slated for 2028 completion

EDP Renewables North America broke ground on Cypress Knee Solar, a 250-MW solar energy project in Chicot County, Arkansas. The project is supported by a long-term power purchase agreement with Facebook parent company Meta.

“Breaking ground at Cypress Knee Solar marks an important milestone for the project and for Arkansas’ growing role in America’s energy future,” said Sandhya Ganapathy, CEO of EDP Renewables North America. “As energy demand continues to rise, projects like Cypress Knee Solar help strengthen grid reliability while creating jobs, generating meaningful local revenue and delivering long-term benefits to the communities that host them. We are proud to partner with Meta and local stakeholders to advance new energy infrastructure that supports economic growth and American energy independence.”

At peak construction, the project is reportedly expected to support several hundred jobs. Once operational, Cypress Knee Solar is expected to contribute $25 million in tax revenue to Chicot County, which can help fund schools, infrastructure improvements, emergency services and other community priorities.

EDPR NA also contributing more than $77,000 to organizations and programs in Chicot County, including support for the restoration of the Lakeside High School greenhouse, resources for the Lakeside Robotics team and funding for the Lake Village food pantry.
