Airline Carbon Markets Get A Boost As IATA, Xpansiv Open New CORSIA Procurement Event

IATA and Xpansiv are preparing the Next Procurement Event in Q4 2026, giving airlines another opportunity to purchase CORSIA carbon credits through the IATA Aviation Carbon Exchange (ACE).

The November event will offer eligible emissions units (EEUs) that meet the requirements of the first phase of the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA).

ACE is introducing features intended to make carbon credit transactions more accessible. Airlines can issue tailored requests for proposals or information, specifying requirements such as registry, methodology and payment terms. Registry custodial services allow participating airlines to use sub-accounts in their names without maintaining their own registry accounts.

A deferred payment option also allows buyers to agree on pricing upfront, with credits held in escrow until payment and delivery at a later date. The option is available through December 2027, according to the event notice.

CORSIA, administered by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), establishes a framework for addressing international aviation emissions growth through eligible carbon units. Phase I covers 2024 to 2026, making access to qualifying credits an important procurement consideration for airlines.

Airlines can also subscribe to ACE’s free weekly CORSIA update, which lists available units and enables recipients to submit bids or counter-bids directly. Project-level information for the November event is expected October 21. Airlines interested in participating can contact ace@iata.org to begin onboarding.
