WhatsApp announces four new features to make group chats easier to manage

In a blog post this week, WhatsApp confirmed that it is rolling out four new features designed to make it easier to manage group chats and keep track of what’s going on in each one. Here are the details.

WhatsApp this week announced that the filter drawer, which appears when users swipe down on the conversations list, will now include a “Mentions and replies” button alongside other filter options such as Groups, Favorites, Unread and custom filters.

Once tapped, the chat list will show only “unread group conversation[s] where you were either mentioned or received a direct reply, including @all messages,” says WhatsApp.

Additionally, WhatsApp will now let users pin messages indefinitely in group chats, rather than choosing between 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days.

Another in-chat feature coming to groups is the ability to “send someone recent messages retroactively after they’ve joined a group just by tapping their name in the chat.” Previously, this was only possible when adding someone to a group, rather than after they had joined.

Finally, WhatsApp is rolling out group status sharing, which lets users post updates visible only to members of a specific group. Other members can view, react to, and add their own statuses, which disappear after 24 hours.

As is often the case with WhatsApp updates, it may take some time for all four features to become available to everyone. To check out the full announcement, follow this link.
