Strava revamps route discovery with smarter search, offline improvements, more

Strava today announced a set of new features aimed at improving route planning and discovery for runs, hikes, and rides. Here are the details.

Last week, exercise-tracking platform Strava announced a new expansion of its strength training features, adding coach-designed guided workouts with live set and rep tracking.

Today, the company announced yet another set of features, this time focused on making it easier for users to find, plan, and navigate routes for outdoor activities.

Here are the key updates the company says are rolling out today:

More Intuitive Search – Finding your favorite route has never been easier. Head to the Maps tab and search for route names or points of interest for your next run, walk, hike or ride. Search for places in your own words with results matched to intent.

Improved Route Inventory – Expanded and better-curated routes so users have a broader set of options to choose from before they ever leave the house.

Redesigned Route Cards – Better assess which route to take by evaluating routes using photos and activity data from Strava users.

Offline Maps – Stay active, even when you don’t have signal. When offline, your saved routes appear right on your home screen so you can reach your destination with confidence. Users can also start and save a workout in Offline Mode, and the finished adventure will upload as soon as service is restored again.

Strava added that subscribers will soon get access to turn-by-turn audio directions, allowing them to “explore somewhere new with confidence” during their walks, hikes, or runs.
