Exercise-tracking platform Strava announced today a new expansion of its strength training features, adding coach-designed guided workouts with live set and rep tracking. Here are the details.
A few months ago, Strava announced an overhaul of its strength training experience, with a dedicated workout log for tracking sets, reps, and weights, automatic muscle maps, and more.
Today, the company unveiled new features that build on that, including coach-designed strength workouts that guide users through each exercise with animations, form tips, and information on the targeted muscle groups.
Now, users can track their sets and reps as they go, with the results automatically saved to their activity once the session ends. The muscle maps introduced earlier this year will also update to reflect the completed exercises.
Rolling out to subscribers over the next few weeks, with a sample workout available to free users, the new experience walks athletes through workouts developed by experienced strength coaches with guided animations, and lets them track sets and reps live as they go. Clicking into each exercise also provides guidance on the correct form, tips and the exact muscles targeted. When a workout ends, every exercise, set, and rep is saved directly to the athlete’s activity, and their muscle map updates to show where the effort went.
The company said today’s update also introduces new guided running workouts, with additional workout series planned before the end of the year.
And speaking of what’s coming, Strava says it’s working on a feature that will let users import strength workouts simply by uploading screenshots of training plans or notes containing sets and reps, “as well as a build-your-own workout feature.”
