Today Amazon announced that its Kindle Unlimited subscription has been rebranded ‘Kindle+’ and includes more audiobooks than before. Here are the details.
Kindle+ is Amazon’s new name for what’s historically been called Kindle Unlimited.
It’s a book subscription service that costs $11.99/month and provides access to “millions of eBooks, as well as thousands of audiobooks, comics, manga, and magazines.”
Up to 20 digital books, audiobooks, or comics can be borrowed at a time and enjoyed inside the Kindle app across Apple devices like the iPhone and iPad as well as Kindle devices.
While today’s Kindle+ unveiling is largely a rebrand of what existed before, it also grows the library of available audiobooks for subscribers. Maria Diaz writes at ZDNet:
The upgrade expands the already available audiobook category through the subscription. It’ll also give authors the option to include more eligible audiobooks in Kindle+, including AI-narrated titles.
Amazon hopes to enhance the reading experience by letting users continue their ebooks with virtual narration as they go about their day after putting down their Kindle. Users will now be able to choose from many more available audiobooks, from traditional narrators to those created with Virtual Voice.
Virtual Voice is Amazon’s tool to let authors offer AI-narrated versions of their books. As the article states though, Kindle+ adds more human-narrated audiobooks too.
You can subscribe to Kindle+ here with a 30-day free trial for new subscribers.
