US humanoid robot Digit 5 targets 20-hour workdays with 9-minute charging

Agility Robotics’ next humanoid robot is designed to spend more of the day moving goods and less time plugged into a charger.

The company has selected Nyobolt’s battery technology for Digit 5, targeting more than 20 hours of productive work within a 24-hour day.

The new system is designed to deliver 90 minutes of runtime from a nine-minute recharge. Early access to robots equipped with the technology is expected in the first half of 2027, serving manufacturing, warehouse and distribution operators.

The battery upgrade addresses a practical challenge for commercial humanoids: keeping robots working long enough to make deployment worthwhile while limiting interruptions for charging.

Digit 5’s battery system delivers a planned 10:1 run-to-charge ratio, compared with Digit 4’s 2:1 ratio. That means the newer robot is designed to operate for 10 minutes for every minute spent charging.

Agility says the improvement could support more than two full shifts of work each day, helping customers increase utilization across their robot fleets.

“For our customers, Digit’s uptime is the business case,” said Daniel Diez, Chief Business Officer of Agility Robotics.

“Digit 5 will deliver more than 20 hours of productive work in a 24-hour day, more than two full shifts. That’s the kind of gain that materially improves the value customers get from Digit and the economics of deploying a humanoid robot fleet,” he added.

“Nyobolt’s ultra-fast charging technology gets us there, and it’s one of the pieces that makes Digit 5 ready for full-scale operation,” Diez said.

Nyobolt’s high-power battery technology combines rapid charging with a design focused on cycle life and reduced system weight.
