Xbox Confirms New $899 Hardware Release With Official Pre-Order Launch

For Xbox's 25th anniversary, Microsoft is releasing a limited-edition commemorative console that harkens back to the brand's roots. The Xbox Series X25 edition of the current-gen console comes with a "translucent OG Green design" and will be individually numbered, but carries a sticker price to match its limited allotment. The Xbox Series X25 costs a whopping $899.99 and is up for pre-order now.

At that price, longtime Xbox fans with less disposable income might prefer Microsoft's X25 Special Edition Xbox wireless controller, available for $79.99.

The Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition console is now available for pre-order for "some of Xbox’s most dedicated fans" via an exclusive email invitation. For everyone else, pre-orders will go live on Thursday, Aug. 27, starting at 7 a.m. PDT / 10 a.m. EDT. The $899.99 console includes 1 TB of storage and is individually numbered with a unique laser engraving.

While the Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition console's price represents a $100 premium over the standard Xbox Series X — which now costs $799.99 after a recent price hike — Microsoft is softening the blow by throwing in a free game. Every Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition console includes a full-game download of Halo: Campaign Evolved. That game retails for $49.99 and is also included with an Xbox Game Pass subscription.

The Xbox 25th anniversary collection launches on Nov. 13. Pre-orders are limited to one per customer.

Xbox fans who want to mark the 25th anniversary of the OG Xbox can also pre-order a special edition wireless controller.
