The Most Expensive Xbox Ever Now Includes Another Special Perk

Microsoft has announced that preorders for the 25th-anniversary edition of the Xbox Series X are now open (at least to some), and if you want one, it's going to cost you.

As rumored, the 1TB console will cost $900, which is $100 more than the standard Xbox Series X. It features a translucent green design and sports an "Xbox 25" logo to celebrate the milestone. The bundle comes with a special-edition 25th-anniversary translucent green Xbox controller as well. Each console unit is individually numbered.

Additionally, Microsoft has announced that all of the 25th anniversary Xbox consoles will include a download code for Halo: Campaign Evolved.

The game launched in July, and while Halo's co-creator had some issues with it, he and others, including us here at GameSpot, generally enjoyed the remake. It's also the first Halo game on PlayStation.

Microsoft is opening up preorders today, August 26, for "some of Xbox's most dedicated fans." Everyone else, meanwhile, can try to get their hands on one starting August 27 at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET through Xbox or other retailers.

The console will become available, for anyone who secures a preorder, starting November 13. People can only preorder one.

If you just want the controller, preorders are open now for the $80 gamepad. It releases on October 20.

$900 is a lot of money, but it's not actually the most expensive anniversary-themed console we've seen. That record belongs to Sony's PS5 Pro 30th anniversary limited edition bundle, which retailed for a whopping $1,000 in 2024.
