New Crimson Desert Enhanced update meant to "improve the narrative flow" actually makes it feel "like a different game," fans say

Just yesterday, Pearl Abyss rolled out the Crimson Desert Enhanced update. A substantial patch, among the changes are new scenes and added depth to the central narrative, and players are astounded by just how different everything feels now, including Kliff himself.

According to the official patch notes, this "enhanced" version of the fantasy playground makes changes across both questlines and the overarching storyline. "Improved the narrative flow of the main story," reads the description. "Added knowledge, items, memory fragments, dialog lines and conversations to strengthen the narrative of bosses."

On paper, this sounds like there might simply be more flavor text, and the cutscenes will get polished to look and flow better. You mightn't even notice a difference, except in places the devs felt weren't quite up to scratch at the time of release.

In execution, it feels like a whole other game, particularly in early parts. Kliff now has more inner monologue that helps flesh out why he's getting involved in things the way he is, particularly with the Greymanes. On top of this, sidequests have more context for how they contribute to the overall backdrop of Pywel.

It appears Pearl Abyss has found the rare instance where the protagonist's internal thoughts are actually more helpful, rather than falling prey to the Blade Runner effect where they over-explain everything. Players, many of whom have clocked hundreds of hours, are rediscovering the game with joy.

"Started with a new save and the introduction is already infinitely better than what it was previously," says one fan on Reddit .
