Metro 2039 Confirms Popular Feature for Launch

Metro 2039 has confirmed the return of its popular Karma system, though the upcoming game will take a different approach to morality to fit the story better. Metro 2039 is the highly anticipated sequel to Metro Exodus, and developer 4A Games has already shared some insight into its gameplay and main story.

Initially announced in April, Metro 2039 is the next entry in the series set to release in early 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. In this new chapter, all-new protagonist Stranger has to retire from exile and return to the Moscow Metro, which has been taken over by the Novoreich regime. The leader of the unified faction is known as Hunter, who rules with oppression and propaganda. Stranger must now fight the Novoreich as well as his own personal demons. Similar to previous entries, Metro 2039 will include returning enemies, stealth gameplay, weapon customization, limited resources, and a deep story with political hues. Now, the developers have confirmed that another fan-favorite feature is making a comeback.

GameRant goes hands on with Metro 2039, 4A Games' upcoming entry that brings the series back to its darker, more survival-focused roots.

In an interview with GamesRadar+ , Metro 2039 executive producer Jon Bloch revealed that the series' Karma system is coming back. However, unlike other Metro games , the approach to morality is going to shift to match the story better. "Where there was kind of a moral grayness in our previous games, we wanted to make sure that the morality was clear in Metro 2039 ," explained Bloch.
