GTA 6’s Jason And Lucia Aren’t Necessarily A Couple

GTA 6's main characters are Jason and Lucia, and while previous trailers have shown them in some steamy scenes, their relationship will be defined by how people play, not by a strict story mandate.

Rockstar North's Rob Nelson confirmed to The New York Times that it will be up to the player if Jason and Lucia complete the story as a romantic couple or merely partners in crime. Players will need to manage the relationship by responding to texts and, like in any good relationship, making an effort.

“It’s new for GTA, this idea of your actions having meaning in terms of how you treat your partner or how violent you are,” Nelson said.

Nelson went on to say GTA 6's story will take cues from "that Bonnie and Clyde concept." He added, "We knew it was the only way for us to go with this game."

Bonnie and Clyde were famous American outlaws from the early 1900s, who committed many crimes, including murder. They were lovers, and they were eventually killed by police in 1934 in Louisiana.

Rockstar has also said GTA 6's story is about "whether love can survive through this storm." This was alluded to in GTA 6's first trailer. It featured the Tom Petty song "Love Is A Long Road." Petty sings about a girl he knew who “said she cared about me” but opines that “love is a long road” with many twists and turns.

GTA 6 launches on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
