Game of Thrones: War for Westeros Trailer Features The Night King on the Iron Throne

Here's a first proper look at gameplay from Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, the upcoming real-time strategy title that lets you conqueror the Seven Kingdoms as one of numerous factions.

Fresh from Gamescom's Opening Night Live broadcast, we have word that Game of Thrones: War for Westeros will launch in early 2027 and have a playable beta before release. More details on exactly when you'll be able to play will follow later this year.

Footage shown today included numerous heroes from the HBO series in action, including Jon Snow, Jaime Lannister, Daenerys Targaryen and the Night King — who ends the trailer sat firmly upon the Iron Throne. Oh dear!

Thankfully you will have your own chance to rewrite Game of Thrones' climactic battle for the Seven Kingdoms as all sorts of factions, and deploy custom units in real-time skirmish battles. A press release accompanying today's reveal also includes mention of Robb Stark, Tywin Lannister and — curiously — both Ghost and Grey Wind.

Alongside direwolves, specific armies will be able to deploy giants, dragons, elephants, and that green fire which destroyed half of King's Landing.

Last month, Game of Thrones: War for Westeros developer PlaySide Studios pushed back the game's release window from 2026 into early 2027, explaining that the extra breathing room "gives us the time needed to continue building towards that goal and ensure that the game reaches the high level of quality we are aiming for."

"We remain unwavering in our mission to deliver a real-time strategy game set in the world of Westeros that meets the expectations of both RTS players and Game of Thrones fans," PlaySide added.
