Call of Duty has been handing cease-and-desist letters to cheat developers ahead of the launch of Modern Warfare 4, and publicly sharing footage and images of those moments to promote its commitment to combating cheaters.

On Aug. 28, the official Call of Duty account on X shared a clip showing its lawyers delivering cease-and-desist demands to cheat providers and made it clear how seriously they're taking cheat software.

According to Call of Duty's X thread, it has successfully stopped 375 cheat reseller operations and 30 vendors, and served over 80 cease-and-desist letters. With this letter, the cheaters are informed that if they continue to produce or distribute their products, legal action will be taken against them.

The company warns that it will do what it takes to protect fair play in Call of Duty games. One X posts about this had a blunt message for cheat developers:"We're prepared to take cheat developers and sellers to court to protect fair play. Build cheats. Sell cheats. We will find you."

The company's end goal is to make cheats harder to make, sell, and use. It intends to do this with Ricochet anti-cheat software, which was used during the Modern Warfare 4 early access beta. Activision claims it had very positive results, improving time to action, lowering infection rates, and facilitating hardware bans.

Cheating can be a huge problem in multiplayer games. Activision clearly hopes this warning has been enough to dissuade those still creating, distributing, or using cheat software from continuing.
