A reported 12 TB collection of Valve data has leaked online, with researchers uncovering what appear to be internal game builds and assets spanning a decade-long period from 2003 onward. The Valve material appears to include early versions of Portal 2 , Left 4 Dead , Counter-Strike: Global Offensive , and a canceled Portal sequel code-named F-Stop , with a possible connection to Half-Life 2: Episode 3 still being investigated.
Valve has two major publicly documented breaches that immediately invite comparison with the new leak. The infamous 2003 theft of Half-Life 2 's source code and the later 2011 Steam breach that exfiltrated a customer database and a limited transaction backup. However, neither appears to be a plausible source of the newly leaked data, which includes assets dating as recently as 2013.
