Slate will offer a high roof cargo version of its compact pickup – and you can buy it!

Bezos-backed Slate Auto is serious about the commercial truck market, and the company’s Fleet Business Development team shared some of the most detailed information about the rumored high roof cargo kit yet at the brand’s ongoing Portland ride-along event.

Instagram account slateautomods reported that Christian Kreipke, Slate Auto’s Fleet Business Development and Government Sales Lead, confirmed that a high-roof cargo topper conceptually similar to the brand’s existing SUV kit would be made available to buyers of the minimalistic, $25,000 “affordable” truck.

The best part? The new cargo kit isn’t just for fleet buyers: the Slate high roof cargo topper will be available to anyone who wants one.

In case the embedded post vanishes, Slate Auto Mods claims the cargo kit will be available as both a “standard square back” and in the new high-roof version rendered, above. That version includes a spoiler cap replacing the top of the cab for a consistent roofline, and both versions will be available in white and black for a starting price of around $3,000.

” The executive also claimed that the next-generation of the Slate would maintain the same basic design dimensions, a move that, if true, would give third party upfitters and aftermarket manufacturers additional confidence to build equipment around the Slate without worrying about redesigns making their products obsolete overnight – something he noted had been a consistent problem with Ford.
