Young, aspirational India will drive fashion’s next growth chapter: Levi Strauss’ Hiren Gor

Speaking with Charu Lamba, Deputy Editor, ETRetail, during the fireside chat “Unlocking New Growth: Where Does the Next Opportunity Lie for Fashion” at the 4th ETRetail ShopFWD Summit 2026, Hiren Gor, MD-SAMEA, Levi Strauss & Co, said Gen Z, women, premiumisation and immersive omnichannel experiences will emerge as key growth levers as Indian consumers increasingly seek to upgrade how they shop, dress and engage with brands.

India’s next fashion growth cycle will be driven by a young, ambitious and increasingly aspirational consumer who is willing to upgrade not only the products they buy but also the brand, shopping and storytelling experiences surrounding them, according to Hiren Gor, MD-SAMEA, Levi Strauss & Co. Speaking with Charu Lamba, Deputy Editor, ETRetail, during the fireside chat “Unlocking New Growth: Where Does the Next Opportunity Lie for Fashion” at the 4th ETRetail ShopFWD Summit 2026 in Bengaluru, Gor identified Gen Z, women consumers, premiumisation and richer brand experiences as some of the strongest opportunities shaping the sector’s next phase. “The biggest opportunity lies in serving an aspirational, confident, expressive consumer of India,” Gor said, adding that consumers are actively looking for an upgrade across product, brand experience, shopping experience and brand storytelling. For Levi’s, he said, addressing that opportunity requires combining the brand’s heritage and quality with continued product innovation rather than relying on a single growth lever. Premiumisation is becoming a structural consumption shift Among the signals emerging from the Indian market, Gor placed particular emphasis on what he described as an “upgrade”: a steady shift towards higher levels of consumption and experience.
