At the inaugural panel discussion, “Experience as Currency: What Will Consumers Pay For in 2047?”, at the 4th ETRetail ShopFWD Summit 2026 in Bengaluru, leaders from Shoppers Stop, Nykaa Fashion, Nalli Silks, Forum Malls and ABLBL argued that the next phase of retail will be shaped by consumers’ willingness to spend on meaningful experiences, convenience, privacy, relevance and quality time rather than products alone.
Time could become one of retail’s most valuable currencies by 2047 as increasingly affluent, digitally empowered and choice-rich consumers demand more than products from brands and shopping destinations. For retailers, that puts personalisation, trust, convenience and meaningful experiences at the centre of the next phase of growth. That was the broad view emerging from the inaugural panel discussion, “Experience as Currency: What Will Consumers Pay For in 2047?”, at the 4th ETRetail ShopFWD Summit 2026, held on August 26-27 at Conrad, Bengaluru. The summit is anchored in the theme “The Experience Economy Playbook”. Advt
The discussion brought together Kavindra Mishra, MD & CEO, Shoppers Stop; Abhijeet Dabas, CEO, Nykaa Fashion; Lavanya Nalli, Vice Chairperson, Nalli Silks; and Muhammad Ali, CEO, Forum Malls, Prestige Group. It was moderated by Vishak Kumar, CEO, ABLBL. While technologies, channels and formats will continue to change, the panellists argued that the fundamental motivation behind discretionary consumption is likely to remain remarkably consistent: people buy fashion, visit malls and engage with brands not simply to fulfil a functional requirement, but to express themselves, seek recognition, create memories and enjoy their time.
From convenience to experiences worth paying for Mishra traced fashion retail’s evolution back to a consumer need that has remained constant despite changes in formats and technology.
