Xbox and IKEA Furniture Collaboration Includes Thumbstick Stools, Tables, and D-Pad Accessories

IKEA has unveiled a range of official Xbox furniture, including gaming chairs, display stands and cozy-looking D-pad cushions.

The range goes on sale in the U.K. from October via the retailer's website and in IKEA stores, and is officially named "YXSTABY" — a name I won't try and pronounce out loud.

In a press release sent to IGN today, IKEA said that YXSTABY reflected "an era where gaming furniture is moving out of teen bedrooms and man caves and into the mainstream living room."

Created together by Xbox and IKEA designers, the nine-piece collection includes functional furniture such as controller display boxes, TV stands on castors, and a side table to store all your gaming accessories.

There are also more bizarre-looking additions, such as green and black "gaming Thumbstick stools", which really do look like the sticks of an Xbox controller at giant size. IKEA says these were developed using the controller's original 3D design files for maximum authenticity. It even tilts as you lean, echoing the thumbstick's motion to keep gamers "comfortably engaged during intense sessions."

My favorite item is probably the green gaming D-pad cushion, although I do also rather like the D-pad platter, themed after the concave metal D-pad on Xbox Elite pads.

"At Xbox, we think a lot about what helps players feel immersed in a game," said Carl Ledbetter, Xbox Head of Design. "The hardware is an important part of that, but so is the world you create around it.
