Paradox commits a classic blunder and accidentally leaks its own post-apocalyptic grand strategy game

As we head into big gaming week™ there are lots of studios with secret projects whirring behind the scenes, waiting to be announced at Gamescom or Opening Night Live. We now know that Paradox is one of said studios, thanks to its own forum filters.

"Paradox Forum website seems to accidentally list the unannounced game's name in the Unreleased Game filters," one eagle-eyed detective pointed out (via DualShockers) on Reddit. In the accompanying screenshot you can see the keyword Afterworld appear beneath Unreleased Games and Prison Architect 2.

What is happening across the Paradox Universe? Find out more on Aug 25th @gamescom #gamescom #OpeningNightLive #CanYouGuessPDX👀 https://t.co/0FnSCPP0pC pic.twitter.com/2PWA9FBz1oAugust 21, 2026

Paradox has also been hinting at something appearing at Gamescom: "What is happening across the Paradox Universe?", a social media post reads. "Find out more on Aug 25th." And players seem to think Afterworld is set to be the big reveal.

Since then, online sleuths have been digging deeper. The Redditor who spotted the game name on the forums finally struck gold on Discord, finding the unreleased server, which had the following description: "Lead a tribe of survivors, rediscover ancient technology, manage wasteland settlements and wage wars of conquest and political struggle in Afterworld, an original post-apocalyptic survival grand strategy game." Sadly, the sleuthing stopped there: "Edit: rip they kicked me :(".

On the Paradox forums, there's a mix of speculation, a few reservations, and some disappointment that it's not the fantasy grand strategy game that a lot of folk were expecting.
