Classic real-time strategy game War for Westeros is giving strong Battle for Middle-earth vibes
The war for Westeros is about to change. On Tuesday at Gamescom Opening Night Live, developer PlaySide Studios revealed the first gameplay trailer for Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, showing how the factions of the Seven Kingdoms will battle for control of the Iron Throne.
In a new Gamescom gameplay trailer, Playside's classic real-time strategy game looks to appeal to both Game of Thrones fans and devotees of games like Warcraft 3 and The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth, with hero characters leading battalions in bloody battle to control castles and land.
War for Westeros will give players command of multiple familiar factions, including House Stark, House Lannister, House Targaryen, and the Night King's White Walkers, to conquer the Seven Kingdoms and decide who sits the Iron Throne. The game's various armies will be led by playable heroes, including Robb Stark, Jon Snow, Ghost, Grey Wind, Jaime Lannister, Tywin Lannister, Daenerys Targaryen, and the Night King. Each hero has their own unique abilities.
"Forging a path to victory will require players to step into the role of a commander, making key decisions in training units, securing resources, constructing buildings, and claiming territory from opposing forces," Playside said in a news release. "Each faction offers asymmetric strategies, with unique armies, buildings, mechanics, and playstyles shaped by their identity in the Game of Thrones series.
