A Beloved Critical Role Cast Member Will Probably Miss Campaign 4 for a Long Time

From the moment Critical Role's Campaign 4 was introduced with its 13-player cast, it was clear that Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan would not pull his punches with them. This became even clearer during Campaign 4's 30th episode, "Here in the Dark."

After a valiant battle against the undead, Teor Pridesire (Travis Willingham) perished alongside his brother Cyd in the crypts of the Tachonis estate. Willingham didn't appear in episode 31, the final episode of the arc before Campaign 4 went on break for Age of Umbra: Sallowlands. Many fans were already hyped at the thought of Travis' new character appearing in the next arc, which debuted on Aug. 27.

However, thanks to Critical Role’s talk-show, Tale Gate, hosted by Whitney Moore (who plays Tyranny in Campaign 4) and featuring several guests, we now know that Willingham’s return to the Campaign 4 cast might take much longer than fans expected.

Speaking in the Beacon-exclusive segment Night Cap, Willingham took the opportunity to answer a fan who wondered when he would next appear. “I genuinely don’t have a backup character planned yet. I also don’t have a reentry point planned yet,” Willingham explained. “I feel like if you die, you got to get punished.”

A delay in a player returning to the table after a character’s death isn’t unheard of in Critical Role or Dungeons & Dragons . When Sam Riegel’s automaton cleric Fresh Cut Grass bit the bullet in episode 91 of Campaign 3, his next character, Braius Doomseed, was introduced seven episodes later, in episode 98.
