DBS will draw on its experience providing AI training to 40,000 employees to help build AI skills across Singapore’s financial sector.
The bank has signed a MoU with the Institute of Banking and Finance Singapore (IBF) covering workforce development, job redesign and young talent development.
DBS described it as IBF’s first such agreement with a financial institution.
The organisations will develop IBF-recognised programmes covering AI governance, responsible AI, prompt engineering and practical applications.
They will also test workforce initiatives drawing on IBF’s Job Redesign and Reskilling Career Conversion Programme.
These will support employees moving into redesigned roles and adopting new ways of working.
DBS has already upskilled more than 11,000 employees whose roles have been significantly reshaped by AI.
“We see AI as a cognitive enhancer – augmenting what people can do by automating the mundane, taking away repetitive and administrative tasks, summarising and synthetising large amount of data at speed.
By removing the toil, AI creates capacity, giving people back time and energy to apply higher order skills such as critical thinking, problem solving and relationship building, so they can solve more complex problems, make better decisions and deliver greater value.”
The partnership will also give students practical exposure to AI in finance through initiatives such as IBF’s Young Talent Programme for AI in Finance.
The bank plans to take in more than 500 young people in Singapore this year through its management associate, internship and traineeship programmes.
DBS has separately launched a Career Advisory Service that pairs AI-powered tools with guidance from more than 100 internal advisers.
