The Witcher 4 Won’t Be At Gamescom, But Finally Has A 2028 Launch Window

CD Projekt RED has put out a short video ahead of Gamescom about the future of The Witcher, and while it will be showing the upcoming Witcher 3: Wild Hunt DLC Songs of the Past at the event, one game that won’t be there is the upcoming Ciri-led Witcher 4. However, the team has confirmed its upcoming fantasy open-world RPG is currently targeting a 2028 release window.

Company joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski spoke to fans in a brief video explaining that Songs of the Past will be heavily featured at Gamescom this week. The expansion will be on the show floor at the Cologne-based event, and those who can’t make it will be able to tune in to livestreams throughout the week from August 25 to 30 to learn more, with Nowakowski saying that there might be “a surprise or two” that pop up in the live shows. However, it doesn’t sound like The Witcher 4 itself will be among them. Though Nowakowski said the company isn’t ready to give an exact date, the game is “targeting” a 2028 launch window. With Songs of the Past coming next year, Witcher fans won’t have to wait too long for something new to sink their teeth into.

As we near #gamescom in just a few days, CD PROJEKT RED Joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski would like to personally invite YOU to join us there, and hear about the future of The Witcher franchise! pic.twitter.com/Jyam30SrQH

The Witcher 4 was first announced at the Game Awards in 2024 , and is officially passing the torch from previous protagonist Geralt of Rivia to his surrogate daughter Ciri.
