Square Enix has shared new information on Final Fantasy 7 Revelation's boss fights during Gamescom Opening Night Live. The highly-anticipated finale to the remake trilogy of the legendary RPG that began in 2020, is set to be released in spring 2027.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation game director Naoki Hamaguchi took the stage to reveal more about the trilogy's climactic conclusion. The new trailer focused heavily on the game's Weapons, extremely challenging optional bosses from the original game. Rufus Shinra describes them as "towering monstrosities termed weapons." We then get brief glimpses of Cloud and the other party members facing down Emerald, Ruby, and Ultima Weapon. These are the game's most difficult fights and include certain constraints, like a 20-minute time limit on the Emerald Weapon fight if the player doesn't have a certain materia equipped. It will be interesting to see how Revelation adapts the unique mechanics of each Weapon fight into the real-time combat system.
Square Enix officially revealed the third entry in the trilogy would be titled Revelation during Summer Game Fest earlier this year. The reveal trailer gave a quick tease of the conclusion's new systems. That includes the ability to pilot the Highwind airship around Revelation 's open-world. No matter where you take the airship, you can jump out and parachute to the ground à la Fortnite in a seamless transition. Locations from Remake and Rebirth will appear alongside new areas like Wutai. Even with all the new environments to explore, Hamaguchi has assured fans that Revelation won't have the same level of content bloat as Rebirth .
