Insomniac Games is setting out to tell a new Marvel Comics story with Marvel's Wolverine, and that also means that the developer has made a few surprising lore changes that longtime fans probably aren't expecting. Like the developer's Marvel's Spider-Man series, Marvel's Wolverine shows a fresh side of Logan that isn't the traditional Earth-616 comic canon.
That doesn't mean that Marvel's Wolverine's story is a complete rework, though. Logan's core personality and many supporting characters will remain intact. Marvel's Wolverine's release date is right around the corner, and Insomniac Games has confirmed several compelling lore changes that players should expect.
This is one of the biggest and most surprising changes to the usual Marvel Comics lore. Charles Xavier hasn't yet founded the group known as the X-Men, so many staple characters fans are used to won't be present in the story. There's always the chance that surprise cameos could be in store for players, but that remains to be seen.
Get ready for the September release of Marvel's Wolverine with a look at every confirmed character so far, from Wolverine to Jean Grey and Sabretooth.
Other Wolverine-led games from the past, like X-Men Origins: Wolverine , have pushed the X-Men aside and left them out of the spotlight, but Insomniac Games is taking things a step further by completely writing them out of existence. In Marvel's Wolverine , the world Logan finds himself in is darker and more dangerous for mutants, so there aren't any safe havens like Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.
